Vietnamese-origin scientist received Britain's prestigious Thomas Graham Award

According to a reporter in London, Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh working at University College London - UCL (UK) was awarded the prestigious Thomas Graham Award 2023 from the SCI/RSC consortium including the Society for Industrialization. chemicals and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Thomas Graham is one of three noble awards of the SCI/RSC consortium to recognize and honor outstanding contemporary researchers in the field of colloid chemistry at each stage of their career: Thomas Graham Award for those who mid-career, the McBain Medal is for early-career researchers while the Sir Eric Rideal Award honors lifetime achievement.

The awards bear the names of major names in the history of British colloidal chemistry including James William McBain, Thomas Graham, and Sir Eric Rideal. They were pioneers in academic research in this area at the University of Bristol, UCL University and the University of Cambridge. Among them, Thomas Graham (December 20, 1805 - September 11, 1869) was a famous Scottish chemist, founder of the London Chemical Society in 1841, and is considered one of the founders. colloid chemistry (he was the first to coin the term colloids in 1851).

At the UK Colloids 2023 scientific conference, taking place from July 17-19 in Liverpool, England, Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh presented to 400 scientists from around the world. This conference is usually held every 3 years, bringing together globally famous scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs in the field of colloidal chemistry.

The lecture received great attention and appreciation from leading scientists and experts in the field of colloidal chemistry attending the conference. According to the delegates' assessment, the content of this lecture by Professor Thanh contains a lot of extensive and comprehensive knowledge about many scientific fields on the basis of connecting the achievements of British science from Thomas Graham, Michael Faraday to the Braggs father and son (the only father and son pair to win the Nobel Prize in Physics). After that, many people directly met Professor Thanh to express their admiration and impression of the content of the lecture as well as the individual author.

Talking to reporters in the UK, Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh could not hide her joy and pride when receiving the prestigious Thomas Graham Award at a very meaningful time. She said that after being honored many times with prestigious science awards (Rosalind Franklin Award for all natural sciences and mathematics, RSC Interdisciplinary Prize for chemistry), the Thomas Graham Prize for chemistry. glue is a profound recognition for the research expertise in nanomaterial technology that she has pursued for more than 22 years.

She also expressed her hope that this award will encourage and inspire young scientists to pursue their dreams of contributing to science and the community. For Vietnam, she hopes that the award will contribute to enhancing the reputation of the team of Vietnamese intellectuals and scientists in the international scientific community, and encourage young Vietnamese scientists to confidently step forward. and integrate with the world's advanced science.

Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh is one of the world-famous Vietnamese intellectuals. She is the only Vietnamese to date to receive a Royal Society University Research Fellowship research grant from the British National Academy and the Commonwealth Fund (2005-2014).

In 2022, she was named in the ranking of 'The World's Most Influential Scientists' (including 2% of scientists in the world with highly influential specialized research projects and recognized authors). most cited by other authors) for both career categories and by year. This list was created by a group of scientists led by Professor John PA Ioannidis of Stanford University (USA) based on the Scopus database.

With a long history of research and teaching achievements in an international environment, Professor Thanh has won many noble awards in research fields from prestigious scientific organizations and academic institutions around the world. She has made tireless efforts to realize the aspiration of bringing Vietnamese scientists to integrate with the world and with advanced science globally.

2023 is also the year that marks an outstanding mark in the research career of Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh. In February, she was awarded the 'Outstanding Woman in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering 2023 ' award by the International Union of Basic and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) along with 11 scientists. female students from the US, UK, Germany, Italy, China, Singapore, India, Brazil, Japan and Belgium.

Previously, in November 2022, Professor Thanh was also honored to lecture in the long-standing and world-famous scientific lecture program Friday Evening Discourses (FED) of the Royal Institute of the United Kingdom (Ri). The lecture video on Ri's YouTube channel has attracted more than 23,000 views.
