Virus attacks Microsoft's latest IM software images 1 Security firm F-Secure has said the latest IM version of Microsoft, MSN Messenger 8, is being attacked by a virus after being officially tested not long ago.

It is a new version of Virkel virus, which specializes in attacking IM programs. Virkel uses the MSN Messenger client to send a dangerous link to all contacts on the infected computer, and then connects to a server to download unauthorized software to the victim's computer.

According to the announcement of F-Secure, Virkel will download and install a virus file called BETA8WEBINSTALL.EXE on a long-term computer. This virus is able to steal sensitive information and data on the computer, helping an attacker get into the system.

Currently, Microsoft representatives still have no comment on the news.
