In 2012, the disaster happened with the center. A strong wind blew the tree and destroyed the rat cage. However, according to the protection team, all computer mice survived and were returned to their owners. And the center is temporarily closed.

After that, the center is reopened and becomes a visiting place for guests. The mice in the cage mainly take care of themselves. They are old mice, of old generation and according to Lueders there are no wireless mice in the cage. Sometimes CERN has to buy new cages for the mice that people donate to the project.
