What should be noted when you want to donate organs?

Only by donating your organs and body after death, you have provided the opportunity to save dozens or even hundreds of others.

Prof. Dr. Trinh Hong Son (Director of the National Center for Organ Transplantation) shared 10 things that people need to understand about organ donation and organ donation procedures.

  1. Procedures for donation of organs and organs are quite simple. Donors who are 18 years old and have full civil act capacity can register. You only need to fill out a form of voluntary donation, and sign the witness (family member).
  2. Most medical facilities across the country can accept applications for organ donation. Persons who wish to donate organs but have questions can contact the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation (http://moh.gov.vn) or the coordinating unit in Cho Ray Hospital (TP. HCM) . for answers and advice.

  1. Elderly people can also donate part of tissue, organs (liver, kidney, cornea .) after death, brain death. Never think you are too old, can't register to donate organs.
  2. Donation of organs or organs is based on a voluntary spirit, so there will be no specific allowance in cash or in kind. An application for organ donation is not legally binding. Any registered person may change the decision at any time.
  3. A brain dead person can save dozens of other lives. There are more than 18 organs in the body that can be used to transplant, save people like heart, liver, kidney, lungs .
  4. Before performing organ transplantation for transplant, the team of doctors will have to take strict steps to check the status of the donor body. People with diseases such as HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis . are not eligible to participate in organ donation.
  5. Donation must be done immediately after the donor dies due to an accident, brain death. Most internal organs such as liver, kidney, heart . can only be stored for a few hours, not more than a day.
  6. It is possible to donate organs while still alive, including kidney donation or part of the liver without affecting much health. Donors who are alive will be granted free health insurance cards and periodical health checks for free.
  7. Vietnam currently has about 6,000 people with kidney transplantation, 1,500 people who need a liver transplant and about 6,000 people who are waiting for corneal transplants.
  8. Organ donation and transplantation are not for commercial purposes. The sale of organs such as liver, kidney . is a violation of Vietnamese and international laws.
