Why should the toilet lid be closed before flushing?

After going to the toilet, if you flush the water without covering the toilet, a cloud of bacteria will fly up and cling to the surrounding surfaces.

Microbiology Professor Mark Wilcox and colleagues at the University of Leeds (UK) conducted a study on the effect of toilet caps on preventing toilet bacteria from spreading, especially in hospitals.

They found that C. difficile resistant virus was pushed up to 25cm after the toilet was flushed without lid, and a smaller amount of bacteria continued to be pushed into the air 90 minutes after flushing. The bacterium then spreads on the walls of the toilet, under the toilet floor and surrounding surfaces.

Meanwhile, many toilets in hospitals do not have lids, so it is easy to cross-contamination.

Therefore, GS. Wilcox said that patients infected with the virus at least have to use specialized toilets. In addition, everyone who uses the toilet at home should also cover the toilet before flushing.
