Yahoo opposed open source software
Yahoo has no intention of publishing its entire software code as open source because this " unrealistic and useful work is extremely limited ", developer Jeremy Zawodny of Yahoo! affirmed on his blog.
" Being a good citizen of the open source community does not mean open source infinitely, openly. You should only contribute when that work really gives meaning to both the open source community and the public itself. company only ", Zawodny said.
Most of Yahoo's self-developed code is for search engines, serving billions of websites every day. This requires the source code to be inextricably linked, if not to mention the issue of trade secrets.

Zawodny is an open source MySQL database expert and currently works on a team of platform engineers at Yahoo. He is also one of the most popular bloggers of Yahoo search engines.
Zawodny's post is intended to respond to earlier criticism by Matt Asay, vice president of Alfrasco, a firm specializing in open source content management systems.
Asay accused Yahoo! and Google are "bad citizens" of the open source community, always keeping exclusive applications and not sharing out. " It is disappointing because they use the source very much, but giving away is not much, " Asay concluded.
Zawodny argues that any modification of the open source community to its code snippets can have a strong impact on software performance. " As Yahoo's scale, just the smallest bottleneck can cause headaches ."
Yahoo has contributed a lot to open source applications like Linux, FreeBSD, Perl and MySQL. The company also announced a series of application programming interfaces (APIs) that allow third-party developers to build applications that interact with Yahoo services, adding features to search or develop plug-ins for Yahoo Messenger software.
