Young men in Phu Yen are infected with Zika virus
27-year-old patient in Tan Hoi village, mountainous district of Son Hoa, Phu Yen, tested positive for Zika virus.
This is the third infection with Zika virus in Vietnam this year.
According to the report of the Department of Health of Phu Yen province, on June 27, the patient showed fever, the highest temperature measured 38.5 degrees, with muscle pain, joint pain. On June 30, patients with red rash should go to Son Hoa District General Hospital for treatment. Suspecting patients with dengue fever, the hospital took blood samples for testing and gave a negative result. On 7/7 the boy was discharged.
On July 28, blood test results at Nha Trang Pasteur Institute confirmed patients positive for Zika virus. Phu Yen Department of Health established a monitoring team to the families of patients and surrounding households in Tan Hoi village, taking blood and urine samples from patients and their relatives and sending them to Nha Trang Pasteur Institute for testing.
This is the third infection with Zika virus in Vietnam this year. Previously, a pregnant woman in HCMC and an elderly woman in Khanh Hoa were found to be infected with Zika virus. Pregnant women then ended early pregnancy. Zika virus is thought to be dangerous for pregnant women because it can cause small head defects for babies.
