YouTube put ads into video clips

Since yesterday (August 22) YouTube will officially deploy advertising directly in the video clips uploaded by users.

However, advertising on YouTube will be different from the usual form of video advertising on some websites. The advertisement will be just a small, almost transparent frame that overrides 'overlay' on a video image at an angle.

The ad 'piece' will automatically disappear after 10 seconds if the video viewer does not have any interaction with it. If the viewer clicks on it the video will immediately be stopped and the ad will replace the display on the video screen. The first step of this form of advertising will only be included in some selected video clips.

YouTube claims the company does not want to "follow the path" of "pre-roll" advertising that has been deployed by Microsoft and The Associated Press on the news video site.

Shiva Rajaraman - YouTube's product manager - said internal testing showed that more than 70% of users overlooked 'pre-roll' ads. Meanwhile, only 10% of users decided to close the 'overlay' ad window.

The 'overlay' form of advertising also offers maximum flexibility for advertisers, Rajaraman said, because simply advertisers will no longer be forced to maintain advertising for 15-30 seconds. In order to avoid the situation that users ignore it, they don't always see it. Instead of advertising 'pre-roll' users have the right to choose whether or not to watch, promotional videos can also be displayed longer.

According to Google's financial report, although many people see it, the revenue that YouTube brought in last year only stood at 15 million USD.

The selected videos for this show are videos provided by Warner Music Group Corp, 20th Century Fox and New Line Cinema, along with videos from several other partners.

The way to charge new forms of advertising by YouTube is also completely different from the form of keyword advertising which is Google 'golden egg chicken'. Accordingly, advertising fees will be calculated according to the number of people viewing ads. For every 1,000 people watching the advertiser will pay YouTube 20 USD. Content owners are also divided into advertising revenue.
