Detection of carcinogens in milk

The China Quality Supervision Agency has detected a high content of aflatoxin (increasing the risk of cancer) in the milk product of Mengniu Dairy Group (China). It is known that this poison is caused by a type of mold.

Milk containing toxins was discovered during a periodic quality inspection. Currently, the amount of contaminated milk has not appeared on the market.

China is trying to strictly handle food safety violations to reassure and restore consumer confidence after a series of food safety scandals.

Earlier, in 2008, at least 6 children died and 300,000 others became ill after drinking milk containing Melamine (industrial chemicals are added to dairy products to increase the protein content of milk).

Mengniu Dairy Group representative said it would destroy the contaminated products, and send apologies to consumers.

In China, food safety has been found in a wide range of products from pharmaceuticals to cooking oils. In September, the Chinese government arrested 32 people who sold oil from waste.
