12 new species of 'strange' creatures have been discovered in the deep sea

These are all creatures that have been discovered by biologists at the American Center for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.

New marine animals have been discovered

Between July and the end of September, the US Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center (NOAA) has taken Okeanos Explorer to explore the deepest oceans of the west coast of Hawaii.

According to the plan, within 3 months, experts will study the sea area with an area of 21,622 square miles (about 56,000 km 2 ).

This is a strictly protected sea area - part of the US national marine reserve. Accordingly, scientists drop a self-propelled robot, which can operate at a depth of nearly 5,000 meters at the bottom of the sea. And the result they obtained was a series of beautiful images of marine life, including species that have never been seen before.

According to project assistant Holly Bamford, this is one of the most pristine ecosystems on the planet. This project aims to collect information and data to serve research, while helping scientists understand more about the ecosystem, terrain, and regional resources. From there, they can come up with better solutions to protect this area.

Sponges are porous creatures under the sea without a head, no mouth, eyes, ears, tentacles, no heart, stomach, muscle, nervous system or any other senses. But sponges still belong to the animal system mainly due to their feeding.

Sponges for food consumption are bacteria and single-celled organisms that swim in the water through an organ that acts as a filter.

Found at a depth of more than 2,700m under the sea, the lobster species squatting makes the experts marvel at the bizarre looks and the "sitting" way 1-0-2. Because its legs curl under the chest, like the squatting posture, this lobster is named after squatting lobster (squat lobster).

Starfish are not a type of fish but are prickly animals, related to sea urchins and 'sand dollar' - a flattened circular aquatic species like a coin that lives in the sandy bottom of the sea.

Gorgonian coral is the longest-sized marine coral ever known in the deep sea. This coral can grow up to 6m. Gorgonian coral is also capable of calcification and development under high CO2 conditions.

Anemones are truly a rich and diverse ecosystem hidden deep in the sea. Not only that, anemones are also a place to hide the enemies of small ocean friends.

Marine biologists have discovered this squid for the first time at a depth of nearly 914m on the seabed. With its small body and impressive color skin, this squid species will make many biologists excited to study them.

Although it looks quite eye-catching and small, this jellyfish is a very dangerous predator. They are extremely poisonous, often stinging seahorses or fried fish (Babagirus) and eating them.
