32 teams compete in the 2017 Robocon finals

With the theme "Conquering flying saucers", teams participating in the 2017 Robocon Finals will present many new technological solutions.

On April 27, the Department of Science and Technology of Vietnam Television held a press conference on the final round of Vietnam Robot Innovation Contest (Robocon 2017). Through the preliminaries, there will be 32 teams from 10 universities, colleges and professional schools.

This year's Robocon contest, called "Conquering the Flying Disc", is based on a Japanese folk game, the country hosts the 2017 Asia-Pacific Robocon Contest.

Matches in Robocon - Conquering flying saucers will be highly interactive, visually appealing when robots must conquer disc response areas. The game field will have 7 landing positions with individual height columns. Each position has a ball placed on it. The robot's mission is to throw the plate exactly to drop the ball, then throw the plate to the penalty area to score points.

With this year's exam, an important factor for robots to conquer disc response positions is to have a precise firing mechanism. Mr. Nguyen Viet Phu, a member of the executive board and organizing qualifying competitions, judged that the contest teams this year have very clever robot designs that meet the requirements of the exam questions.

Mr. Phu said that the qualifying round shows that the team from schools with Robocon tradition such as Sao Do University, Lac Hong University or Hung Yen Technical Pedagogy still show good strength."However, the quality of the robots of the teams can change in the period from qualifying to the final round, so it is difficult to predict the results," said Mr. Phu and further information of the Defense Industry College is unknown. The first time the participants advanced quickly to the final round.

Talking about the new point of the competition this year, Mr. Dinh Dac Vinh, Head of the jury, said that instead of familiar movements such as calves and support, this year's robot must perform disc throwing movements."This new move forces teams to come up with new technological solutions so that the robot works best at the lowest possible cost , " Vinh said.

Besides, if every year, teams usually have to prepare two robots including manual control robots and automatic robots, this year, teams only have to design one robot and have the right to choose the right type of robot. match the tactics and capabilities of each team.

Head of the Department of Science and Technology of Vietnam Television, Deputy Head of the Organization of the 2017 Robocon Finals, Mr. Do Quoc Khanh said that in order to meet this year's theme, ekip produced the program equipped with digital speed cameras The altitude helps the audience better see the structure of the robot's disk shot, the orbit of the disk or the spin of the disk when impacted."The organizers will broadcast videos directly from the stadium on social networks to target young audiences," Khanh said.

The matches in the framework of the 2017 Robocon Finals will take place from May 9 to May 14 in Ninh Binh and will be broadcast live on VTV2 channel. The champion team will represent Vietnam to participate in the Asia-Pacific Robot Innovation Contest, held in Tokyo (Japan) in August 2017.

10 universities, colleges and professional secondary schools have the finalists of the 2017 Robocon competition: Sao Do - Hai Duong University (6 teams), Ha Tinh technology college (4 teams), University Technical pedagogy of Hung Yen (6 teams), Hanoi University of Transport (2 teams), Hanoi Electromechanical College (1 team), National Defense Industry College (2 teams), Public University Hanoi (2 teams), Electricity University - Hanoi (1 team), Lac Hong - Dong Nai University (6 teams), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education (2 teams).
