5 discoveries of human nightmares
Nightmare is a dream of terrifying images, but so realistic and vivid that it can interrupt sleep.
According to Huffington Post, nightmares often appear in the period of rapid eye movement (REM) and create a very realistic feeling, even making people dream of long-term obsession. Most people have occasional nightmares, but only about 6% of adults experience them on a regular basis.
"Nightmares generally create more intense emotions than bad dreams. The usual way to distinguish between them is a nightmare that will make the dreamer directly awakened, due to the level of authenticity of the image. bad in dreams or emotional intensity is too high, " said Zadra Antonio, a sleep research psychologist at Montreal University, Canada.
Here are 5 discoveries of nightmares, helping us to unravel our own dreamy dreams.
Nightmare is the way to release anxiety of the brain

A video with the title "The positive side of bad dreams" in New York magazine explains that nightmares can be a way for us to handle and let go of worries in everyday life.
The mind does this by turning fears, vague worries into life into a specific story in a dream. The story then becomes a part of memory, making it easier for the brain to organize and process information, to end feelings of depression.
Besides fear, nightmares can give rise to many other negative emotions such as helplessness, despair, sin, anger. This allows the brain to handle similar emotions in real life.
The theme of nightmares
In a study published in Sleep magazine in 2014, Antonio and his University of Montreal colleague collected nearly 10,000 dreams from 331 adults living in Canada.
Through research, scientists identify common themes that are present in people's nightmares, and most likely we have encountered at least one of them. Most themes of nightmares often involve insects and insects, falling, being chased, family members or friends who die, personal conflicts and violence, feeling "the present of evil ", health-related issues.
Decipher the meaning of a nightmare
Sigmund Freud, an Austrian psychologist, saw the dream as a door to the subconscious of humans, and he was fascinated by the dream interpretation. Freud believes that every dream carries information about desire and fear subconsciously. However, later studies failed to prove that the topic and image in the dream were universal, and psychologists gave up the practice of dream interpretation.
"This does not show that nightmares do not make sense. They certainly have some metaphor meaning, but the way they appear varies from person to person," Antonio said.
Dream trends of men and women
The dream of a natural disaster or asteroid that destroys residents on Earth is not uncommon. According to research by University of Montreal scientists, natural disasters are a common theme of nightmares.
Results showed that 9.4% of men dream about disaster, while only 4.7% of women dream about this topic. An earlier study also found that men tend to dream about war and terror more often, while women's nightmares often involve conflicts, personal conflicts.

The biggest problem with nightmares is affecting sleep quality, causing drowsiness the next day. In rare cases, this condition may become more serious.
When nightmares appear frequently and severely in a person's dream, he or she will have nightmares. This is a form of sleep disorder (parasomnias) , which involves an unpleasant experience of falling asleep, sleeping or waking.
People with parasomnias may experience sleep anxiety, causing them to wake up, cry or try to escape the room while still sleeping.
