A group of explorers were lost in the maze of a narrow tunnel in the Canary Islands, Spain. At least 6 people were killed due to suffocation.
The 30-person research team, including scientists, began the exploration of the Los Silos tunnel system in Tenerife on Saturday, February 10. However, they were unfortunately lost when they went into a turn.
One of these members tried to escape the tunnel and asked for help from the local authorities. 23 was lucky to be saved. However, it took 17 hours, the bodies of six people, including one woman, were transferred out of the tunnel area and taken directly to the hospital by helicopter.
According to Jose Andres Garcia, director of Spain's emergency relief center, the warmth is too narrow, lack of oxygen, CO 2 poisoning is thought to be the cause of death for explorers.
Tunnel system on Tenerife has a long life span of centuries due to excavation by islanders to find water. Some sections of the tunnel are too small, only about 1 m2, making rescue work very difficult.
The rescue team is rushing to the body to the hospital.
