88-year-old grandfather was hypnotized for heart surgery
Listening to a nurse talking about a favorite topic, he gradually fell asleep so that the doctor could perform heart surgery without using anesthesia.
The use of hypnosis is becoming more and more popular in French hospitals. In 2015, the Curie Institute in Paris used hypnosis to surgery for a woman with breast cancer. Most recently, an 88-year-old man was also hypnotized for heart surgery at Lille University Hospital.
According to France Bleu, the patient underwent aortic valve replacement surgery without using morphine or tranquilizers. During the time on the operating table, he was hypnotized by a specially trained nurse.
In preparation for hypnosis, the day before the surgery, the nurse visited his 88-year-old grandfather and found out about his interests and passions. Following the principle of "leading patients into the world they like" , nurses talked about travel and gardening pleasures, topics of particular interest to patients. After that, he "almost felt nothing" and fell asleep, leaving the medical team to do his duty.

The surgery ended, the patient immediately returned to normal."He can talk soberly like me and you," said Arnaud Sudre, head of the surgeon team at Lille University Hospital, told reporter France Bleu.
The patient is also very pleased with the surgery. He said, "I would be happy if they asked me to do it again."
Next week, Lille University Hospital will conduct an additional operation using hypnosis. According to the LCI, this medical facility has 90 employees trained in hypnosis.
