A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Peru

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said on September 25 there was a 7.3-magnitude earthquake on the southern coast of Peru.

The tremors can be felt in a large area of ​​southern Peru.

According to USGS, this earthquake occurred at 4:42 PM GMT. The epicenter was 30km deep off the Pacific Ocean, 72km south of Lomas town.

Initial information indicates that some houses in the area have collapsed. Landslides also occur in Nevado Chachani volcano area near the city of Arequipa, obstructing traffic.

Due to the impact of the earthquake, residents living in high-rise buildings about 500km from the capital Lima also felt the shaking and quickly evacuated.

Peru is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 80% of global earthquakes occur.

In Pakistan, the number of casualties in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Baluchistan continued on September 24.

The latest announcement on September 25 indicated that up to 328 people were killed and 500 injured in this disaster. The number of casualties may increase as more people are trapped in the rubble.

Previously, in April last year, in Southeastern Iran, bordering Baluchistan province also occurred an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude, killing 41 people and affecting the lives of more than 12,000 Pakistani people.
