A brick in the galaxy

Four different views were assembled by a group of astronomers to form an overall image of the 'Roue du Chariot' galaxy, shaped like a jellyfish after a clash with a bank Ha is 100 million years ago.

Phil Appleton's team at the California California Institute of Technology (Caltech) used images observed through ultraviolet rays in the GALEX galaxy probe, Spitzer telescope's infrared ray, Hubble telescope and NASA's Chandra X-ray telescope to create a picture of the 'Roue du Chariot' galaxy .

The collision of two galaxies occurs like a brick falling in the middle of a mud puddle . This has created a series of concentric circles due to the pressure of gas. New stars are located in the outer ring of the galaxy. The center of the galaxy is a very quiet area and has old stars. This is exactly the opposite of the structure of other galaxies.

The outer ring of the Milky Way observed in the image is not its boundary line. Observing the galaxy via GALEX has revealed the existence of an additional ring, which contributes to doubling the diameter of the galaxy. In short, the 'Roue du Chariot' galaxy is 2.5 times larger than the 'Voie lactée' galaxy .
