In bad weather conditions, especially severe sea storms, many fishermen stranded offshore need to be rescued. However, determining their position is very difficult.
Helicopters are not safe when operating in storms. So many European governments have funded the EUREKA project! ASARP 3931 with the goal of producing drone equipment with the task of rescuing and detecting victims in storms.
The prototype of this type of aircraft is a hybrid model of seaplanes and helicopters. It can store and land from the ground or water surface, operating continuously for four and a half hours, carrying a load of 40 kg including detectors, cameras and a system to transmit information about the control center. In high wind conditions, thanks to the special design, the wings and tail of the aircraft flexibly adjust the position so that it does not fall. In particular, it is optimized for low-range flights when searching for victims.
According to Gizmag , the project is being coordinated by the Scottish engineering firm of Scotland and the Israel Computing Center. Prototype is in the final testing phase in Cyprus.
