Almost all American children eat too much salt, increasing the risk of heart disease
Up to 9 out of 10 children in the US are eating too much salt, increasing the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease when they grow up.
According to a report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 9 out of 10 children in this country are eating too much salt, increasing the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease when they grow up.

This report shows that more than 40% of the kids' salt intake comes from their favorite foods like pizza, burgers, cheese, fried chicken and pasta dishes.

The average 6-18 year old consumes about 3,300 milligrams of salt per day, which is much higher than 2,300 milligrams per day recommended by the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
CDC director Tom Frieden said: "There are too many children who are eating too much salt, and the consequences will be increased blood pressure and heart disease in the future. Most of this salt comes from processed foods. and food at the restaurant, reducing salt intake will help our children avoid serious health problems ".
According to this report, lunch and dinner are the most salty meals of the day. About 65% of the salt is from store-bought food, 13% from fast food and pizza and 9% from food in the school canteen.
CDC advises parents to regularly give their children plenty of vegetables and fruits and healthy and unprocessed foods.
The school can help by reducing the amount of salt in school food and other options of low-salt foods at vending machines and school canteens.
