America: Outbreaks of deadly bacteria in bagged spinach
On September 15, US health officials tried to locate the source of a multi-state e.coli outbreak in packaged spinach and they warned consumers that even washed vegetables. Fresh berries also do not kill bacteria that can kill this person.
According to officials from the FDA Food and Drug Administration, one person died and dozens of others contracted the outbreak in 19 states involving bagged spinach.
The cause of this outbreak was reported on Thursday in eight states.
Also yesterday, the states of Ohio and Kentucky raised the number of states reporting the outbreak of up to 10 states - amid state and federal health officials continuing to receive additional reports.
Ohio state health officials reported seven cases - including a serious case - while Kentucky officials were aware of a single case involving a 17-year-old girl being treated at neighboring Tennessee.
On the other hand, there were 21 cases of suspected infection in Wisconsin and 4 of them were in the final stages.
Meanwhile, supermarkets across the United States, including supermarkets in Washington and New York City, have begun to consume packaged spinach.
