AOL upgraded the video search engine
America online (AOL) has just recently upgraded its online video search engine, adding the technology of Truveo Inc.
Truveo has successfully developed a web search technology called "visual crawling" - a visual search. Truveo's technology is completely different from traditional video search technologies in that the technology is capable of checking "environments" around web applications.
According to the developer, this environment sometimes reveals more metadata about the videos. Other video search engines work inefficiently because they only check headlines or summarize the content of the video and use RSS streams to deliver results to users.
AOL acquired the technology developer to search for this new video in December 2005 to improve its search engine video capabilities.
Truveo has also indexed a total of 1.8 million videos. Thus, the acquisition of Truveo AOL also enjoys all of this 'fortune' in addition to its more than 20,000 original copyrighted videos and 2.5 million videos from Singingfish web indexing firm. com - another company that AOL acquired in 2003.
