Avian flu broke out in many localities

The diagnosis showed that all poultry died at the outbreak identified as positive for the H5N1 bird flu virus.

In Quang Ninh , on May 16, the epidemic occurred in a household in village 7, Hai Yen commune, Mong Cai town. The number of dead ducks and geese is 116 in the total number of unvaccinated 3543-day-old children.

The outbreak has been definitively diagnosed by the H5N1 virus.

In the south, the epidemic has recurred in Can Tho province on May 17. The epidemic occurred in 2 households raising ducks in Thanh Loc commune, Vinh Thanh district with 375 dead ducks out of a flock of 1500, 78 days old, not vaccinated. The diagnosis results confirmed that the duck died from H5N1 virus infection.

The outbreak also occurred in a province in the northern mountainous region of Son La . On May 18, the ducks and geese of a household in Ban village, Chieng Mai commune, Mai Son district died. The number of dead ducks is 30 in the 600 flock, the number of dead ducks is 100 in the total of 360 heads. The number of muscovy ducks and ducks from 20 to 30 days old has not been vaccinated, due to H5N1 infection.

Most recently, outbreaks have erupted in Nam Dinh . On May 19, outbreaks occurred in duck raising households in 3 communes in 3 districts, namely: A duck raising household in Thuong Dong village, Hien Khanh commune, Vu Ban district, with 150 ducks died in total flock of 450 children, 71 days old, not yet vaccinated.

In addition, another duck raising household in hamlet 7, Nam Toan commune, Nam Truc district has 975 deaths out of a total of 1,400 animals. One household in hamlet 1, My Thanh commune, My Loc district with 150 children died out of a flock of 1,100, 19 days old, not vaccinated. All 3 ducks were diagnosed with the H5N1 virus.

Department of Animal Health said, local veterinary agencies have so far destroyed all sick poultry flocks in the area and carried out disinfection hygiene and disinfection, vaccination and stampage. Facing the risk of widespread epidemics, the Department of Animal Health has sent officials to direct the epidemic in the above localities.

Along with the recent outbreaks in Nghe An, after a long time of lulling, the avian influenza has appeared again in 4 localities and there is a risk of continuing to spread on a large scale.

Up to now, 60 provinces have been implementing the 1st vaccination campaign in 2007; Total vaccinated poultry were 116.6 million, of which 73.3 million chickens; 40.1 million ducks; geese is 3.2 million. In addition, large livestock companies have used more than 5.6 million doses of Trovac vaccine. However, the epidemic still broke out in localities across the country.

Nghe An: Destroying more than 5,000 infected ducks from H5N1

On May 16, nearly 100 domestic ducks, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh (village 10, Nhan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh, Nghe An) suddenly died.Sub-Department of Animal Health in Nghe An went to the establishment to receive samples;Test results on May 19 are positive for H5N1.

Immediately after the test results, more than 5,000 of the 10 ducks were completely destroyed.

According to the Animal Health Department of Nghe An province, the whole commune of Nhan Thanh currently has more than 20,000 ducks in danger of being infected. To avoid outbreaks on a large scale, the work of sterilization and detoxification to stamp out epidemics is being implemented drastically by the authorities. There were 40 veterinarians and epidemiologists from the district to the province concentrating in areas where epidemics were to be closed and sprayed with disinfectant to control the spread.

This is the third outbreak in Nghe An in the past 1 month.
