On October 31, Canadian officials announced the discovery of waterbirds infected with bird flu in Quebec and Manitoba, but this is not a dangerous H5N1 strain.
'Initial test results confirmed that the H5 influenza virus has more than 28 samples from the Quebec region and 5 other samples from the Manitoba region, but it is not likely that this is the H5N1 virus,' Jim Clark of the Food Censorship Agency. Canada (CFIA) said at a press conference.
Meanwhile, information from local newspapers said the bird flu virus found in Iraq was not H5N1. According to the Iraqi Agriculture Minister, the country is taking preventive measures to ensure bird flu is not allowed in the country. The area of bird flu detection is the Kurdistan region near the Turkish border, where H5N1 bird flu was discovered earlier last month.
