On the evening of April 22, in Hanoi, the Center for Nature Education (ENV) in collaboration with the US Embassy and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) held an award ceremony for the Protection of Animals. wild for 5 outstanding individuals with outstanding contributions to the protection of rare species.

Accordingly, the award of excellent law enforcement officers was awarded to 3 individuals including: Mr. Tran Thanh Binh - Director of Lam Dong Provincial Forest Protection Department; Mr. Nguyen Van Duong - Deputy Head of the Police Department for Environmental Crime Prevention and Combat, Quang Ninh Police; Mr. Lam Hieu Nghia - Captain of Team 2, Department of Environmental Police, Ho Chi Minh City Police.

At the same time, the organizers also awarded awards to two outstanding journalists who have made a lot of contributions in conveying information related to conservation, as well as encouraging and calling on the public to not use the products. wildlife products through the articles of Mr. Hoang Hai Van (Thanh Nien Newspaper) and Mr. Nguyen Duy Tuan (Vietnamnet electronic newspaper).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Vu Thi Quyen, Director of ENV said: 'The problem of hunting and wildlife trade in Vietnam has become painful in the past decade. In fact, every day, hundreds and even thousands of rare animal species are hunted and traded illegally, causing wild animals to face extinction. "

However, Ms. Quyen also said that in recent years, activities such as hunting, illegal wildlife trade have been much prevented by people who are interested in biodiversity.'These five honored individuals will be the hope for a better future for rare and precious forest animals. Therefore, we need to respect their efforts in conservation work , " Quyen emphasized.

Attending the awards ceremony as a representative of the sponsor, Deputy Embassy of the United States, Ms. Claire Pierangelo gave praise for the efforts of award-winning individuals.'The honor of honoring the 5 outstanding contributors in this conservation activity will be an important step to save rare animals from extinction ,' said Claire Pierangelo.

According to Ms. Claire Pierangelo, the prevention of hunting and wildlife trade cannot be done overnight, but if we work together between government agencies, the international community, civil society organizations and individuals, rare and precious animals will be protected.
