Xenoglaux loweryi is a small owl that was first discovered in 1976. But no one saw them after that. This owl has many long beards around the mine. In Latin language, their name means ' strange owl '.

A group of bird lovers saw Xenoglaux loweryi in the Abra Patricia conservation area in northern Peru, BBC said. This protected area is protected by the American Bird Conservancy in the US and ECOAN in Peru.

The long beard is listed on the International Union for Conservation of Endangered species list because they only live in Abra Patricia reserve, which covers an area of about 187 km 2 . The reserve is often covered by low clouds so it has very high humidity.

But the living area of bearded owl in Abra Patricia reserve is threatened by deforestation.

Sara Lara, American Bird Conservancy's director of international programs, said: ' The long beard is an active bird at night and lives only in Abra Patricia sanctuary. Their number is very small so visitors only have a chance to see them once in their life . '
