Blood-sucking fish slaughtered native creatures in Lake My region

The population of rocky grouper declined significantly in many lakes in the Ngu Ho basin after the harsh winters in the 2013-2015 period, but their numbers are increasing as the lake water becomes warmer.

Sardines are harmful to native fishes in the Five Lakes of the United States to the point that authorities must use poison to destroy them.

The Ngu Ho Fisheries Commission, the US last week, said that the rocky grouper is recovering and continues to harm Lake Superior and Erie, forcing authorities to continue to apply the extermination measures, Tech Times on 8 / 10 reports.

The growth of grouper is regarded as one of the worst man-made disasters in the Five Lakes region. They are invasive species that breed strongly in lake water and attack many other fish. Of the 180 non-native animal species in the Five Lakes, rocky grouper is the only species introduced into a large-scale control program with poison.

Rocky grouper originated in the Atlantic Ocean , introduced into Lake Ontario in the mid-1800s and infiltrated upstream lakes in 1921. In 1939, rocky grouper distributed throughout the basin thanks to the canal system. .

Rocky grouper adheres to other species thanks to the suction-shaped mouth filled with teeth and creates a small hole through the scales of prey with a sharp tongue. Therefore, they also have the nickname "vampire in the lake".

To control the grouper, authorities use barriers, traps, alarm signals and even fish killers. Through a combination of measures, local authorities can handle organisms at different stages when they are larvae, juveniles or adults.

Before authorities actively controlled the population of rocky grouper in the Five Lakes region, they killed about 47 million kg of fish each year. Thanks to measures to control quantity, the number of fish killed by this invasive species decreased to 4.5 million kg / year.

The rocky snakehead has a snake-like appearance, appearing 200 million years ago, before both the dinosaurs and the world's oldest vertebrate. A special feature of this "living fossil" is that they have razor-sharp teeth in a circle instead of a jaw.
