Brassica and breast cancer
Some types of cabbage such as cabbage, broccoli and dark green mustard can improve the survival rate of breast cancer patients.
That is the report that was submitted at the American Cancer Research Association conference in Chicago on April 3, according to AFP.
The study was conducted in Shanghai, China, involving 4,886 people aged between 20 and 75 who were diagnosed with breast cancer between 2002 and 2006.
The results showed that the risk of death in the group that ate a lot of cruciferous plants during the 36 months after diagnosis was reduced from 27 to 62% compared to the group with no or no diet.
The possibility of recurrence of tumors also decreased from 21 to 35% in the group that ate a lot.
Specialist Sarah Nechuta of Vanderbilt University (USA) said that through the study, people with breast cancer should consider eating a diet rich in dark green mustard or cabbage and broccoli to enhance their survival. .
According to Nechuta, the next study will focus on the biologically active compounds in green mustard leaves, including isothiocyanates and indoles, as well as the dose of these substances to effectively attack cancer cells.
