Brazil: The most severe drought in the past half century

Local media in Brazil said that the Northeast Brazil is experiencing the most severe drought in the past half century.

Drought has affected people's lives in more than 1,100 towns in the largest country in South America, even the cause of conflict in some rural areas.

Brazil's "O Globe" newspaper reports an average of one person per day killed in water struggles in the northeastern countryside of the country.

The small supply of water also caused heavy losses to farms, with many farms losing 50% of their animals while plants were barren and dry. The Brazilian government had to lower its forecast for cereals, soybeans and coffee compared to the forecast given earlier this year.

In Pernambuco region, 66 cities suffer from severe water shortage. All rivers and dams holding water in the area are in drought.
