British diver caught giant lobster nearly 70 years old

Giant shrimp nicknamed JJ is the largest lobster in the UK since 1931 to date and is living in the National Oceanographic Park in Plymouth, England.

Mirror reports, lobster JJ was named after British heavyweight athlete Joe Joyce, who just won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics. Currently, JJ is living at the National Marine Park in Plymouth.

Weighing 7.65kg, JJ is the heaviest lobster found in the UK since 1931. Joe Pike, a free diver, found JJ in the Lannacombe Sea in northern Devon in early August and brought it to ocean park.

Since JJ was taken out of the water environment for a long time, the Plymouth Sound tank staff were taking good care of the lobster to recover quickly. After a full recovery, it will be taken to the Eddystone Reef exhibit with other natural marine species.

"It is difficult to calculate the age of European lobsters, especially at this size because of the number of molting and their development depends on many factors. However, we estimate it is about 50-70 years old. The care workers here take care of JJ very carefully and we are very happy that it is gradually recovering , ' said James Wright, curator of the National Marine Park.

European lobster , also known as West lobster (scientific name is Homarus gammarus) is a type of lobster that lives in the eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean and some places in the Black Sea. This species is easy to distinguish thanks to the dark green body and the size difference between the two larger ones, one for cutting and one for grinding.

Previously, Europe's largest western lobster was found in Fowey, Cornwall, England in 1931, weighing 9kg and longer than 120cm.
