Soon, just flying to China, you will see the first building in the world about to be shaped like a living cell.

The building, with its molecular biology-like internal structure, will be the headquarters of the Institute of Membrane Biology and Nanomedical Technology in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, China.

This design is a collaborative product of individuals from different professions, initiated by Sloan Kulper, an architect of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The original design of the building was inspired by its elegant, structured protein structures and their simple and beautiful structural decoration.

This $ 12 million, six-storey building will expose convex windows across its surface, similar to proteins in a cell membrane, attached to the surface like small potatoes.

The work also has a large crystal-shaped amphitheater with crystal diffraction patterns on the ceiling. Biologists crystallized proteins and projected X-rays through them to observe diffraction patterns to study the shape of a protein.
