Dr. Won Jae Lee, a member of the research team, said that calcium-absorbing cells control many essential biological processes in the body and can support tumors to grow and metastasize. This mineral acts as a signaling molecule in the body and the signals that calcium sends to cells sometimes stimulate cancer to develop.
