The northern cave fish, Amblyopsis spelaca, lives only in limestone caves in Indiana and Mammoth Caves in Kentucky (USA). Because they live in a difficult environment, they have to eat a lot of different foods to survive. These blind fish live their whole lives in the dark, adapting well to the lack of sunlight.

It's not that they don't have eyes, but their tiny eyes are covered by a layer of skin. However, they have more than a hundred " compensated " fingers : the head and the whole body of this cave fish are covered by protruding protrusions that look like tiny fingers. These "fingers" help them feel the vibrations in the water. Just so much "grace" that they were able to catch prey and swim freely in pitch-black water.

Another strange thing is that the cave fish hatches eggs in the mouth: After the fish spawn and the egg is fertilized, the female swallow the eggs into her mouth. Eggs are kept in the bearing chamber, for two months there, the eggs are maintained until they hatch.

Cave-blind fish have small, slender bodies, only a single dorsal fin. Big mouth, lower jaw protruding, yellowish dau.

Amblyopsis spelaca fish live in fresh water, adult male body length is about 10.4cm.
