The air pollution in Beijing is getting worse, forcing officials in the country to admit that the previous evaluation criteria are incorrect.

The government promised to give an accurate assessment of the level of environmental pollution in Beijing in the near future.

Mr. Zhang Lijun, Deputy Minister of Environment of China, said that air quality in China is lower than the World Health Organization's standards. The leader admitted that the level of pollution in Beijing previously announced was measured according to the old standard system.

"We hope the move could ease public concerns over the past time , " the Telegraph quoted Hua Lei, deputy director of the Beijing City Monitoring Center, told Xinhua.

A brown smoke covered the city of Beijing on November 10 with the city's air pollution index at level 2 and means "clear blue day" according to Beijing's environmental authority. The agency also said the Chinese capital had nearly 300 days of clear blue sky.

The results at the monitoring station at the US Ambassador in Beijing show a big difference with the results of the authorities here announced.

Accordingly, the airborne particulate sensor at the US Embassy shows the air pollution index at 229/500 - twice the safety standard, warning of health hazards.

In this situation, Mr. Zhang Lijun said that China will try to measure atmospheric dust more accurately.

Small dust particles in the air can pass through the lungs into human blood, increasing the risk of heart disease or lung cancer, especially in the elderly and children.

Severe air pollution in Beijing in recent months has caused a violent wave on the internet. Some Chinese celebrities suggested the government adopt stricter pollution standards.
