China built the world's longest sea tunnel

China intends to invest more than US $ 42 billion in the world's longest undersea tunnel construction project.

The tunnel construction project under Bohai Bay connecting Dalian port city in Liaoning province and Yantai city in Shandong province was launched in 1994.

The tunnel under Bohai Bay has a total length of 123km, far beyond the 54km length of the Seikan sea tunnel in Japan, currently considered the world's longest undersea tunnel, and the Channel tunnel connecting the UK. and France with a length of 50km.

In 1994, China announced the world's longest tunnel with a total investment of about $ 10 billion at that time and is expected to be completed before 2010. But after 20 years, the project is still in place. planning phase, before being reviewed by the government recently.

After the tunnel is completed, the distance between the two cities Dalian and Yen Dai will be shortened to nearly 1,000km. However, the completion time of the world's longest tunnel project has yet to be revealed.

Wang Mengshu, an expert at the China Institute of Technology, said the investment in tunnel construction could be recovered within 12 years. He estimates that revenue from other tunnel declarations is about $ 3 billion a year.

Nearly a month ago, a Chinese company also received a package to build a canal in Nicaraguan to compete with the Panama Canal.
