According to BBC, Sunway TaihuLight computer is operating at the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi, China. The machine is capable of performing about 93 million billion calculations per second, twice as fast and three times as efficient as the top computer last year, Tianhe 2.

This supercomputer can be used for advanced production, weather forecast and big data analysis. The computer is made of 10.5 million processor cores, 40,960 network nodes and runs on Linux operating systems.

This is the first time in the Top500 ranking list, China ranked in the US with 167 super computers, while the US owned 165 supercomputers."Just 10 years ago, China had only 28 systems on the list, no system in the top 30, China went further and faster than any other country in the history of supercomputers. " , Top500 representative commented.

The United States has four supercomputers in the top 10, while two Chinese supercomputers occupy the highest two positions. The remaining positions in the top 10 belong to supercomputers in Japan, Switzerland, Germany and Saudi Arabia.
