Chinese bus test 'fly'

The idea of a crazy "flying" bus in China came to fruition when the first prototype ran in Hebei province.

The TEB test run took place in the city of Qinhuangdao on the morning of August 2, Shanghaiist said. The test consists of a single carriage with a length of 22m, a width of 7.8m and a height of 4.8m.

The car has 18 seats arranged along two sides, two round seats in the middle and large space to stand with the capacity of up to 300 people.

Manufacturers say the car is designed to run in the air, while other vehicles can still move smoothly underneath. A complete car can carry 1,200 passengers and reach speeds of 60 km / h.

However, this test is not suitable for actual traffic because the bus only runs on a special 300m track. Moreover, to get into the bus, passengers have to use the high platform, instead of moving by elevator as the design is expected.

Transit Explore Bus has come up with the concept of TEB buses many years ago. However, until May, the new project caught the attention of the people when the car was introduced at the 19th International High Tech Fair held in Beijing.

Only a month later, the company made a surprise announcement when the TEB bus was ready for the first test run in August.

Compared to the MRT, the cost of producing TEB buses is five times cheaper and only takes one year to complete, Transit Explore Bus said. This is expected to be a solution to traffic jams in many major cities of China, cutting 800 tons of fuel consumption and 2,500 tons of carbon emissions each year.
