Close-up of the new island formed on the Red Sea
Strong movements and eruptions of an ocean bottom volcano led to the formation of a new island in the Red Sea.
According to local fishermen, they saw a red hot lava flow erupting as high as 27m from a volcanic seabed near the Zubair Group, off Yemen's west coast on December 19.

New islands are being formed from volcanic eruptions on the Red Sea
A few days later, NASA's Earth Observatory recorded images of a large underwater explosion between the Rugged and Haycock islands, and from that position, a new island appeared.
Images taken on October 24, 2007 at the location of the newly formed island show no existence of it before.
