CNN stopped charging for online video services
Starting July 1, CNN will give up fees for its online video service, currently being charged at $ 25 a year. And so, CNN will be the first news agency to change the fee collection mechanism on the network.
CNN spokeswoman Jennifer Martin said it is likely that the news agency will include advertisements in the video in the near future, but it will be later, not July.
In another move, Editor & Publisher and Mediaweek magazine voted CNN as the best video provider site.
This is the second time in two years that CNN has changed its video registration policy. In June 2005, Time Warner Inc. has stopped charging for video services to prepare a more advanced service package 6 months later.
The high-end video package is Pipeline, which includes 4 online video streams with more than 50,000 clips stored. The service will be free on July 1 and the name Pineline will disappear.
Pineline is currently charging 25USD / year, 3USD / month or 1USD / day. CNN did not announce the number of people using Pineline, but according to Martin's disclosure, the traffic of this video service peaked on September 11, 2001 with 1.2 million people.
