CO2 gas makes the Earth green

The study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change (USA), shows that CO2 itself contributes to the Earth's green color.

The study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change (USA), points out that CO2 itself contributes to the Earth's green color.

Prior to this information, there were a number of objections suggesting that the finding could encourage the release of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) into the environment. However, the scientists conducted this study confirmed that the "greening " effects of CO2 will decrease over time and the negative consequences of increasing atmospheric CO 2 are still larger than that. with a positive side.

The team, consisting of 33 scientists from 8 different countries, analyzed satellite data stored for more than three decades. They found that a quarter of the Earth's area has undergone significant greening itself , thanks to the development of greenery. This effect contributes to slowing down the process of climate change , because plants can absorb more carbon dioxide from the air.

According to Zaichun Zhu, an author of the study, "this greening process takes place in an area of about 18 million square kilometers and is able to fundamentally change the circulation of water and CO2 in the climate system." .

Using computer models to reproduce plant growth according to satellite data, the researchers discovered the proportional association of a "green Earth" with increasing amounts of carbon dioxide. The researchers concluded that plants are able to adapt to carbon dioxide emissions in the Earth's atmosphere.

Other factors considered are land management, climate change impacts and nitrogen fertilizer use, all of which contribute to greening the Earth.

However, the main author of the study - Professor Ranga Myneni at Boston University (USA) also said that the growth of trees cannot compensate for global warming, ocean acidification process, melting of ice at the two poles of the Earth and rising sea levels.
