Comets of the century were destroyed when flying near the Sun.

Comet Ison, dubbed the "comet of the century", was destroyed when it flew too close to the sun this morning November 29.

According to the BBC News Agency, despite its enormous size, Ison's comet was shattered by the Sun's tremendous heat and gravity. The European Space Agency (ESA) confirmed Ison's comet was "dead" at dawn.

Comet Ison attracted the attention of many international experts after two astronomers Vitali Nevski and Artyom Novichonok discovered it in 2012. 2km wide object comes from the edge of the Solar System, straight into the central area. It was formed about 4 billion years ago.

Experts have hoped to see it fly through Earth's sky and shine for weeks. The study of the Ison comet will also help scientists better understand the edge of the Solar System. However, the closer it gets to the Sun, the more it evaporates, emitting dust that drags into streaks in space.

Flying near the Sun, Comet Ison bumped into an area with temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees Celsius. And the Sun's tremendous gravitational force tore apart the comet's core.

In the coming time, scientists still have the opportunity to observe many comets. In October 2014, comet Siding Spring will fly over Mars at a distance of 100,000km. A month later, ESA will bring the spacecraft to comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
