The truth about the first UFO

When this photo appeared in 1883, it quickly gained the attention of many people because it was believed to be the first evidence of UFO (unidentified flying object).

But now, scientists from Mexico's National Autonomous University (UNAM) believe it is an image of a large comet approaching the Earth.

The photograph was taken by Mexican astronomer José Bonilla, showing that something was flying through the Sun on August 12, 1883. When it appeared publicly in 1886 in L'Astronomie magazine It is thought that this is the first evidence of the existence of a UFO.

However, the results of this new study confirm that this is not a UFO at all. It is simply a comet in the process of exploding.

'We have hypothesized that what Bonilla observed in 1883 was just a fragmented comet , ' said Hector Javier Durand Manterola, the study's lead author.

Besides, 'using the results of the Bonilla report, we can estimate the distance that the object approaches the Earth's surface. According to calculations, the distance from 538km to 8,062km and the width of the object is between 46m and 795m ' , Manterola added.

"Comets are the only object in the Solar System surrounded by fog , so the theory that the object Bonilla sees is small comets is perfectly reasonable ," the scientists said.

In addition, its mass could be up to eight times the mass of Halley's comet, similar to a comet that had once hit Earth and made the dinosaurs extinct.
