Continuous earthquakes on the Mexican and American borders

At 1441 (local time) on February 19, an earthquake of magnitude greater than 5 Richter shook the border areas of Mexico and the United States. At present, the authorities on both sides of the border have not recorded any material damage or human life.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude 5 magnitude quake is centered on Calexico, a US border city with 37,000 inhabitants, about 34km to the southeast. According to estimates by Mexican colleagues, this earthquake is strong to 5.3 Richter scale. In addition, many aftershocks have continued to occur after that. This is the fourth most intense earthquake from February 8 to now, causing fears of disaster in the region.

Many people in Calexico said their families had to share a room on the ground floor and did not dare to work on the upper floors. In the past days, local people have bought water, flashlights, dry food to reserve disaster rooms. And when the 19-2 earthquake struck, traders at a commercial center in Calexico panicked and rushed to the street.

In the past two weeks, this area has three earthquakes with an estimated intensity of 5.4, 5.1 and 5 Richter scale, causing power outages and temporary intermittent mobile phone communication services at Baja California region of Mexico.
