191 species of hard coral, 3 varieties of soft coral, 72 species of seaweed . around Son Tra peninsula are at risk of being destroyed by illegal exploitation.

On June 26, Director of Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Van Hao said that the city has just decided to delineate and issue a ban on fishing and coral exploitation in the sea area of ​​Son Tra Peninsula.

According to research by Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, the waters from Hon Chao to southern Hai Van and around Son Tra Peninsula (Da Nang) have 191 hard corals, 3 soft corals; 3 species of seagrass, 72 species of seaweed, 53 species of mollusks, 23 species of large size echinoderms, 221 species of phytoplankton . But the illegal exploitation of corals and aquatic products here takes place many years, causing the risk of destruction.

Mr. Hao said, since 2007, Da Nang has advocated zoning to protect a sea area of ​​about 4,000 ha, from Hon Chao to Nam Hai Van and around Son Tra peninsula. From June 2009, implementing a ban on sea protection, strict protection of nearly 100 hectares in Hon Su, Bai But, Huc Lo, Vung Da and Dong Bai Bac areas from the shore to 300 meters at an average depth of 12 meters.
