Irwin, 44, was stabbed in the chest by a stingray while he was filming underwater in Australia. He was treated right at the scene but the medical staff were helpless. Queensland police confirmed Irwin's death and said his family was informed. Mr. Irwin has a wife and two children.

Although dangerous, but the rays of the rays are very rare. David Penberthy, editor of the Sydney Daily Telegraph, told the BBC he had never heard of people being killed by rays in Australia.

Mr. Irwin has contributed greatly to the construction of the Australian Zoo, a large natural center. He is famous for controlling dangerous animals like crocodiles, snakes and spiders, and his documentary films about crocodiles are shown around the world. But he also caused controversy with many dangerous screens.

Australia was seething with anger when he put his one-month-old son a meter away from a reptile at the Australian Zoo.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard said today that Irwin's death was a "great loss for Australia."

"He is a great character," said John Howard.
