Delete painful memories thanks to genes that remove memory

In a study that seems to be only in sci-fi movies, geneticists believe they have a step closer to the ability to erase obsessive memories.

A group of US researchers believe they have found a gene that plays a role in removing memory.

The process occurs when a new memory overwrites the old memory, which will be used to adjust as an important key to gradually eliminate sad memories.

This research can lead to the advantage of successful treatment of people affected by pre-traumatic crisis or obsession with the past.

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology think that if you find a way to activate gene activity, known as Tet 1 , it can change your life.

Before this study there was a comedy film by Jim Carry and Kate Winslet in 2004 called Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind with the theme of erasing memories.

Part of the research has been applied to mice. The mice were locked in cages, then energized to get used to the fear. Some are activated Tet 1 while others are not. When resetting them in the electric cage but not activating the electricity anymore, the two groups of mice have different behaviors. The group of mice with Tet 1 does not appear to be afraid of the cage because the memory is violated while the mouse is often still panicked.

The study was published in the September issue of the journal Neuron.
