Detecting planets can live near Earth

Astronomers from the University of California, Santa Cruz and the American Carnegie Institution on September 29 reported discovering a planet they thought could live and the planet is orbiting a close star.

Astronomers say the planet is called Gliese 581g , because it has a rotation period of less than 37 days, in the middle of the " habitable area " of the red dwarf Gliese 581 - a sign that helps homes. Science surmises that there may be water on the surface of the planet.

Gliese 581g has 3-4 times the mass of the Earth, showing that it can have a lot of rocks and gravity enough to absorb the atmosphere. Gravity on Gliese 581g's surface may be a bit or higher than Earth's, so people can easily walk. Thus, Gliese 581g has met two important factors: water and atmosphere that help sustain life on the planet.

In addition, according to scientists, one side of the planet is always facing the star, so it always receives light while the other side of the planet is always dark. The temperature will gradually decrease in the dark and gradually increase in the bright area and the habitable place is the interference between the bright and dark sides of the planet. The average temperature on the surface of this planet is measured at minus 31 to minus 12 degrees Celsius.

Gliese 581g was discovered during the observation of the red dwarf Gliese 581 - 20 light-years from Earth (a light-year close to 9.461 billion km), under the Lick-Carnegie Exoplanet research project. in 11 years.

Astronomy professor Steven Vogt, of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and one of the team's leading researchers, confirmed that the discovery of the planet near Earth shows that there are certainly many planets like Gliese 581g exists in the universe.

The entire study will be published in Astrophysics and on www.arXiv.org.
