Discover 2,250-year-old coins

Archaeologists have discovered silver coins with the image of the ancient Pharaoh Ptolemy III at an oasis south of the capital Cairo (Egypt).

The excavation team discovered 383 artifacts, dating back to 2,250 years. They are found near Lake Quanrun, Fayum oasis, 120 km from Cairo.

The coins are found to weigh about 32 grams. On the one hand carved the image of the Lord Amun, the other side has the embossed inscription 'king' and 'Ptolemy III'.

In addition, they unearthed antiquities of different ages. For example, a necklace made from ostrich eggs, a whale skeleton dating back 42 million years.

According to Egyptian history, the reign of Pharaoh Ptolemaic lasted from 330 to 30 BC. This was also the last dynasty of Egypt before falling into the hands of the Roman Empire, with Queen Cleopatra being the last ruler.
