However, that is where Chinese scientists found 5 new species of spiders, according to a report published on ZooKeys.
All of the species discovered this time belong to a larger family of armor spiders , called Tetrablemmidae , with features characterized by layered patterns on the abdomen, much like an armor.
Shuqiang Li, a research team leader, said his group had entered more than 2,000 caves, and in the past decade has succeeded in finding at least 2,000 new species of spiders.
The caves contain five new spiders belonging to the South China limestone area, the UNESCO World Heritage site, stretching from Guangxi, Guizhou to Yunnan.
