Discover 5 new arachnoid spiders

Experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have found new arachnoid spiders in dark caves in the southeastern part of the country.

For those who are afraid of spiders, it is more frightening than having to face a hairy, leafy animal in the darkness of limestone caves.

However, that is where Chinese scientists found 5 new species of spiders, according to a report published on ZooKeys.

All of the species discovered this time belong to a larger family of armor spiders , called Tetrablemmidae , with features characterized by layered patterns on the abdomen, much like an armor.

Shuqiang Li, a research team leader, said his group had entered more than 2,000 caves, and in the past decade has succeeded in finding at least 2,000 new species of spiders.

The caves contain five new spiders belonging to the South China limestone area, the UNESCO World Heritage site, stretching from Guangxi, Guizhou to Yunnan.
