900-year-old mummy was discovered in cardboard sandbox in Peru

The mummy is wrapped around with rope and placed in a cardboard box. Sanitation workers discovered it early in the morning while sweeping near an archaeological site in the city of Trujillo, northwestern Peru.

" It looks like any cardboard box being thrown on the street. But when I opened it, I was almost dumbfounded when I saw the skull staring at me. I didn't know it was an ancient mummy but just thought. someone was murdered and immediately called the police ", news.com.au yesterday quoted worker Otilio Padilla Miramontes.

According to a police spokesman, they determined this was not a new skeleton.This mummy, dating back to 915 years, could be stolen from the Chan Chan archaeological site , which was once the capital of the Chimu dynasty, existing on the western coast of Peru in 1100 AD.

The mummy was transferred to the Peruvian Cultural Agency for further examination.
