Discover a beautiful rainbow fish that can glow in the dark
A rainbow fish with beautiful colors has been recorded in a sea off the Maldives.
According to the Daily Mail, this fish is found at depths from 40 to 70 meters. The fish impresses with its colorful pink head, a color that is relatively rare in the animal world.
Rainbow fish has just been discovered
The fish is scientifically named Cirrhilabrus finifenmaa. The word "finifenmaa" in the local language means "rose".
Ahmed Najeeb, a biologist at the Maldives Marine Research Institute, and the author of the work, was the first to describe the new rainbowfish subspecies.
He said about 30 years ago, people saw a rainbow fish Cirrhilabrus finifenmaa but thought it was another fish called Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis.
So far, the number of encounters of Cirrhilabrus finifenmaa in the wild is only counted on one finger, mainly in the sea area 1,000km south of the Maldives.
It was not until recently, when Ahmed Najeeb and his colleagues carried out a project to find and study special local fish species, that they recorded a completely new species of rainbow fish.
Adult males are usually bright red, peach, deep pink, orange and dark purple. The color on the body of the fish is capable of self-luminous.
The color of rainbow fish is rare in the animal world
According to the research team, some seas from 35 to 70 meters deep in the Maldives are extremely dark. In almost no light, many fish species have developed colorful and luminous bodies to facilitate navigation in the ocean.
Mr. Ahmed Najeeb said that the ocean world still has many mysteries and countless new species yet to be discovered. "Describing and classifying new species is important for biodiversity conservation and management," says Ahmed Najeeb.
