On October 25, the Institute of Archeology and the Center for Conservation of Heritage of Quang Nam announced that there were traces of temple architecture deep underground in the My Son World Heritage site, revealing a My Son. more ancient than the known relics.
In the framework of the archaeological excavation program in My Son, the team of experts discovered the ancient ruined temple towers in the east of the current Group D group, located deep below 0.9-1.1m compared to ground level of tower tower D.
Dr. Le Dinh Phung from the Institute of Archeology, chaired the expert team, said the architectures found underground had no relationship with the temple tower structures.
The ruins are still in their original state, the long layers of tiles and decorative blocks remain intact, showing that they are dating back to the existing architecture. Initially, archaeologists identified works dating back to the beginning of the 9th century.
Although the vestiges left in My Son date quite early, from the end of the 4th century to the beginning of the 5th century, but so far, scientists have only approached architectural works belonging to the group B, C and D, most dating from the 10th century onwards.
Archaeological experts affirmed that the results of the excavation partially opened an ancient American Son underground, opening a way to learn more deeply and comprehensively about My Son world heritage.
Experts also collected more than 445 artifacts that were part of a collapsed stone structure. According to the initial conclusion, this is the base of a stone tower, small scale and with the same year as Tower B1 (around the end of the 13th century).
The excavation results also showed that the soil layer in My Son has the characteristics of being slippery, the terrain is sloping down, so most of the structures are sunk toward the slot of the Khe card stream, leading to collapse. Therefore, according to the archaeological group, it is necessary to survey the strata around the groups of towers to provide technical solutions to prevent subsidence, protect the existing relics.
